Conclusion to Discussion of Jesus’ Titles
Conclusion to: “Who is the Son of God?” and Jesus the Messiah or “Christ”
To conclude, Jesus was a Messiah of the lineage of David, but He was not seated on the throne of David. He was not even from the lineage of earthly kings.
Yet, a king “on the throne of David” was promised to rule over the Kingdom of God on Earth (Isaiah 9:6-7).
Therefore, the apostles were confused and finally acquiesced that Jesus would return to establish this earthly kingdom, and that the kingdom He established while He was here, was the Kingdom of God in our hearts, so-to-speak. He gave us a love for such a place. He called it the Promised Land.
Yet Paul also says in his letters to the Romans and Hebrews, that the Christians never reached this land of promise, yet are heirs according to promise, and are recipients of the blessings given to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, calling them “heirs according to promise.”
So Jesus was not crowned king of the earthly Kingdom of God on Earth, therefore he was not anointed king. Jesus came from a lineage of prophets, not a lineage of kings. David’s son Nathan, who was Jesus’ forefather according to the lineage given by Luke, was a prophet. But he did not inherit the throne of David, nor did he pass it along to his descendants.
Now many people claim Mary was Jesus’ only physical ascendant, and that God was Jesus’ real father.
Excuse me, while I sneeze: “MaleBovineFeces!”
Jesus was of the lineage of David. Mary was not of the lineage of David. Joseph, Jesus’ physical father was of the seed of David. Mary and Joseph had been living together for well over a year, betrothed to one another, and Mary came up pregnant. Lo and Behold. Joseph had never had intercourse with Mary. But, the two had been sleeping together, betrothed, and living together for well over a year. These days, everyone knows that the sperm cells have tails and women can still get pregnant without intercourse, due to the male-female body chemistry intermingling, etc.
So not only was Jesus conceived by a virgin, he was also the son of his own father Joseph. Paul explains that Jesus was of the “seed” of David. In the Greek, this is “sperma.” Make no mistake, he’s talking about Joseph’s seed being in Jesus, and Jesus being of the “seed” of David. This lineage is cited twice in the Bible, more credibly by Luke than by Matthew, in my opinion.
Luke shows Jesus’ genealogy all the way back to David through Joseph. I know you Christians must be incredulous, but this is what the Bible says! The only reason you have a problem with it, is because you have been taught to Love the Lie, that Jesus is God, and God was Jesus’ physical father! You refuse to accept what Paul says right in Romans 1: 1-3, where he tells you that Jesus was only “designated” to be the Son of God, by the “spirit of holiness” [Holy Spirit]. Jesus was not the Son of God because he was physically conceived by God! He was of the “seed of David according to the flesh,” and “designated Son of God” by the Holy Spirit!
The Bible repeats itself, over, and over, and over, and over again, that Jesus is the descendant of David through his father Joseph, and thus an offshoot of the sacred lineage of kings, but his ascendants were not seated on the throne of David, with the exception of David himself. Thus Jesus had many titles relating to this lineage from David, with the exception that, he was not to be anointed king on this earth, because he was not of the lineage of Davidic kings!
However, his apostles were finally able to accept and understand that Jesus’ kingdom, was “not of this world.” He did not fulfill all the prophecies of the Old Testament. That is why initially, only small numbers of people believed in Him. It is also why all the apostles turned away from him for three days and three nights, during which time the “Son of man” lay in the “heart of the earth” for three days and three nights (see Resurrection of Jesus article on this site).
So Jesus was not anointed “Messiah” on the throne of David in this world, because he was not of the lineage of Davidic kings. Therefore, if Jesus was not anointed king in this world, how was He anointed, since to be a Messiah means to be an “anointed one?”
Jesus was “anointed” by the Holy Spirit! When John the Baptist was baptizing him in the River Jordan, the heavens opened, a Spirit of God came down from heaven like a dove, and alighted upon Jesus. A voice said, “this is my beloved Son, with Whom I am well pleased.” Paul explains that although Jesus was of the “seed of David according the flesh,” nevertheless, that didn’t preclude him from also being “the Son of God according to the spirit of holiness” [Holy Spirit].
Thus Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit. Also on this day, the day his cousin John, “the Baptist,” was baptizing him, he became the Messiah, or “anointed one” of the lineage of David. He was not seated on the throne of David, so he did not fulfill the promises (See Isaiah 9:6-7) that a lineage of kings on the throne of David would be God’s kings on earth forevermore.
But he did fulfill many other prophecies, and therefore the apostles, chose to believe in Him.
So Jesus’ title “Christ,” is just that: a title.
It does not make him a god, and his mother another god. These god images of Jesus and Mary are just that: images. Moses forbade the making of images in the Ten Commandments. The Christians should refer to them!
But rather, they adopt the corrupt war posture of the Holy Roman Empire, and defend their idols to the death: to their own spiritual death, that is.
